NJ AID FOR
ANIMALS NEARING 500 CATS THAT HAVE BEEN SPAYED OR NEUTERED
FOR CAREGIVERS!!!
Thanks to our fabulous volunteers, our vet techs, Pennie
and Dani and our compassionate vets, Dr. Campbell and Dr.
"HR".
In March, 2008, NJ Aid for Animals sponsored a free
spay/neuter day for owners of cats in Camden City, NJ.
Then in April, 2008 NJAFA "rented" a space for their vets
who volunteer their time to spay and neuter more cats.
In May, 2008, one of NJAFA's long time donors who is still
helping us to save animals in Camden sponsored another
"spay day" at the same place for us.
In June, 2008, with money getting shorter, we got smarter
We searched the area and found another group that had a
mobile surgery van but no one to do surgery. So we
"partnered" up.
June, 2008, Atlantic Co. SPCA and NJ Aid for Animals
spayed and neutered 30 cats for caregivers that could not
afford it.
and have just completed our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY with our
partner Atlantic County SPCA.
In addition to our other program services, once a month
since March, 2008 we have been spaying and neutering feral
cats in the mobile van with our wonderful team of vets and
volunteers.
We are close to nearing our 500 mark for the number of
feral cats we have speutered and helped.
The caregivers of feral cats who are trying very hard to
work within the guidelines of TNR are already putting out
their own time, energy, money and resources to help the
cats that have to live outside.
Our program helps those caregivers who would otherwise
have to pay (even at low cost "clinic" prices), hundreds
of dollars to spay or neuter their managed colonies.
Neither ACSPCA nor NJAFA receive a profit and our vets and
vet techs receive no compensation.

Kathy McGuire attended the annual free rabies clinic on
January 24. There information about parvo, distemper
shots, proper shelter for dogs, leaving animals in car,
dog fighting, spay and neuter was given out to over 450
residents who showed up to take advantage of the free
rabies for their animals.
This is a wonderful opportunity for rescue organizations
to reach out to the community. Kathy directed over 30
people to local clinics for distemper shots and answered
questions from the residents non stop for four hours.
Five people who wanted to but could not afford to get
their female dogs spayed will be covered by NJ Aid for
Animals at a local vet who is offering to help us. As
most of you may know, the cost of a spay for dogs at
most low cost clinics are not covered for a PAIN SHOT OR
MEDS.
A sponsor has stepped forward who could not think of
spaying a poor female dog without pain med and is
augmenting the cost of pain meds for ten female dogs.

AID FOR ANIMALS SEVENTH SPAY/NEUTER DAY
UPDATE . SEPTEMBER
2008
For the seventh straight month, NJ Aid for Animals has been
spaying and neutering cats for caregivers that cannot afford
it.
On Sunday, September 21, with the help of our wonderful
volunteers, the vet techs who donated their time and Drs.
Honey Rothberg and Helen Campbell, we were able to spay and
neuter over two dozen cats from caregivers who are not able to
afford spay and neuter and five dogs from a breeder.
We tested them all, treated them for fleas, earmites, worms and
cut their nails.
In the past, NJAFA even with the volunteer efforts of the
vets, we still had to RENT space to spay and neuter feral
cats. Thankfully, we have found a group to partner with that
offers us free facilities.
We are a small non profit with only a handful of volunteers
with no government funding and no funds for fancy advertising
and expensive websites. Only through our reputation have we
been able to accomplish what we have done so far.
We are doing the best we can by using our resources but we
still need to purchase the vaccines and supplies for the spay
and neuter clinics for the feral cats.
Won't you consider donating for our medical supplies as we are
planning another spay day for October

Violet chilling out waiting for her eye surgery on September
17....She is such a good little girl. A resident in Camden called
NJAFA because Violet was dying of pyometra. Because the pyometra was
left untreated, it forced Violet into a diabetic condition and the
diabetes has made her develop cataracts.
She has come a long way since May, 2008 when she spent five days in
hospital. Now she runs and plays but is very confused because she cannot
see.
Won't you consider making a donation toward her eye surgery? Each eye
will cost us approximately $l,500. We have enough raised to do one eye.

GREAT BIG THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! Despite a torrential downpour at ourDirty Dogs event, we were all safe and cozy at Six Packs Pub under
the covered deck with great food and music.
SUPER THANKS to Lynn and Kenny, owners of Six Packs for their generous
hospitality and for bringing in the band the “Frankadelics”, for us.
Thanks to all the people who came despite the rain (and to all the
regulars at Six Packs who supported us with generous donations).
We already have the event booked again for next year…..what a great
combination of food, music, all our regular supporters and new
friends. Watch for a new "twist" next year!!!
If we can have this much fun in the rain, just think what it will be

Donations
critically needed at busiest season of the year Money
donated will go toward helping dogs like little Nikki
found abandoned in a house in Camden. He is severely matted and it
is causing him difficulty to walk. We can feel his backbone and his
teeth are the worst we have seen. This is a case of neglect and
abandonment.
An animal like this will need to be groomed, neutered, tested for
heartworm and lyme, given rabies and distemper, front line for
fleas, Drontal for all four types of worms. One dog like this will
cost us well over $400 and he is like many we
have surrendered to us or that we try to "aid".
Your attendance at events like this ensure that
we will be able to help all the animals that
come to us in this condition

21 with a resident who received a free rabies
shot for their little pug.
Friday, June 20 both Kathy and volunteer, Nicole

out educational material and offered humane
education information to everyone who showed
up!!
NJ Aid for Animals' in the forefront of spaying
and neutering in Camden City, NJ signed up over
12 people to have their cats altered AND l7
dogs!!! This was a very successful event for us
and neither Kathy nor Nicole minded giving up
their Friday evening or Saturday to spend it in
Camden City!!!
NJ Aid for Animals' has been invited to the next
three clinics over the next two months. We plan
to offer even MORE of a pet enrichment program
(PEP) to the animals in Camden to augment what
the City is already doing with their free rabies
clinic there.

NJAFA was proud to endorse "GUS" the little dog
with cancer for the 2008 Ugliest Dog. Because both of
our beloved dogs passed away from cancer, and this
little guy is struggling so hard to make it we felt he
was the best candidate. Besides the owner could probably
sure use the money to pay for all the expensive
treatment. Treatment for cancer in dogs is very
expensive.
Thank you to Regas at Ellas Automotive for keeping
Kathy McGuire's l2 year old car running.....it is our only mode of
transportation for going into Camden.
Regas says he has to "hold a clothespin on his nose" because it
stinks so bad....but when he fixes my car he is the best and is
always there when it is on it last legs and he always supports our
fundraisers.
Unlike lots of repair shops and mechanics that may rip you off, he
is honest and the very best.......
Thanks to Regas and Ellas for helping all the animals!!

Dear NJAFA
Supporters - Please join me in celebrating the
life of one of our beautiful rescues and the
wonderful people who took Cha Cha. We are very
very sad about losing this little girl.
Losing two of
our rescues in one month has been very devasting
for us. We follow every single animal we take in
from the day we rescue it, to the new owners,
to the animals' progress and on to their death.
Losing Dottie and Cha is almost too much to
bear.
We had next
weekend planned for them to drive from VERMONT
to the group home where Cha's original owner is
dying of AIDS for him to see her one last
time..this will not happen now. I guess they
will meet over the Rainbow Bridge.
Please spay and
neuter your animals not only for the obvious
reasons but to prevent breast cancer in the
females and testicular cancer in the males.
This is from
Cha Cha's owners in Vermont:
It is with
great sadness that I must tell you that we had
to put Cha to sleep today.
After weeks of
struggling, today she could barely manage to
stand up.
John and I both
knew that the time had come, and that we had to
make this decision and not let her suffer any
longer.
We will forever
hold her in our hearts, and remember her for all
of the happiness she brought to us over the past
year.
Please say your
prayers for Cha Cha tonight. She was just so
exhausted, and now she will finally have rest.
We will love
you forever our beautiful, sweet girl. Thank
you for letting us love you.

UPDATE June 2, 2008 - GOOD NEWS
FOR CRACKERS -
Crackers does NOT
HAVE ORAL CANCER!!! When we were advised to euthanize him because
of his poor skin condition, wound on tongue, FIV status and
probably mouth cancer, we said "no" let's send in a biopsy to make
SURE he doesn't have cancer.
He can live quite
well for a long time with his FIV and the wound is not hindering
his eating.. He has gained two pounds! We are going to continue
to hope the lesion under his tongue will heal with meds and that
the deep wound may heal.
Sad little Crackers from Camden
City
Many of our rescues are very
sad stories that sometimes don't have happy endings. We try to make
every effort to save an animal that comes our way that
wouldn't otherwise have a chance at a shelter or another animal
welfare organization, but sometimes it doesn't happen that way.
MEET "CRACKERS" - surrendered from a crack
house in Camden.
About a month ago, I was flagged down in
Camden by a well known "landlord" of a drug house. He asked me if I
would take a cat from one of his "residents" that was very very sick
and he could not afford care.
Poor little "Crackers" was drooling
profusely, could not hold his tongue in his mouth, was very
underweight and covered in filthy greasy matted hair and flea
festation.
When we got him home the first night he ate
FOUR CANS OF CAT food.
He was in so much pain and so filthy,
before we could even neuter him he HAD TO BE bathed. We had to
anesthetize him before we could BATHE him. Grease, dirt and fleas
poured off of him as our volunteers held his limp body under warm
soapy water.
Then as he was being examined, we found he
was positive for FIV and had a horrible lesion on the floor of his
mouth. He ALSO has a huge HOLE IN HIS TONGUE!
His owner was simply giving him dry food
which had to have been very painful for Crackers to eat for MONTHS!
and he could not groom himself.
Cracker's biopsy from lesion under his
tongue should be back next week but even if it is not oral cancer
the wound on his tongue will probably not heal. Crackers will not
be able to groom himself and will be in constant pain. Given the
fact too that the AIDS virus has weakened his immune system already
as well.
For now, he is living comfortably and on
pain and steroid meds. We need all your prayers and support for
little Crackers....so many of the animals we rescue go from hell to
heaven then to an even better place .....over the Rainbow Bridge.
When the Big Rig was here at the invitation of NJ Aid for Animals
on March l5 this family showed up to have their five dogs receive
vaccinations.
We convinced this family to get their males and females who were
all living together spayed and neutered. We were delighted when they
agreed and Kathy McGuire arranged for their big day. She drove to
their house in Camden to make sure everyone was up and at em on the
spay/neuter day.
The whole family went along to keep the dogs comfortable as Kathy
led the way.
What a great day it is when one family with this many animals
agrees to do what is best for them and we know that no more puppies
will be born at this address!!!

Bart in Camden
- NJ Aid for Animals helps people too!
Watch it now
Meet Bart. We were introduced to Bart about two years ago when
Animal Control in Camden called NJAFA to help out with Bart because he
had too many cats. Unfortunately we didn't make it in time to teach
Bart how to keep all his cats and many of them ended up euthanized at
the County Shelter.
NJAFA was able to counsel Bart on how to use the litter boxes, we
got all his remaining cats s/n and shots and have continued to help
him with medicines, food and other challenges he may have had.
Bart is mentally challenged himself and many people were trying to
take advantage of him. Bart is such a friend to the animals in
Camden. He feeds the stray cats in front of his house and his doctor
is just across the road and he feeds them too! Bart is a valuable
friend to have in Camden for the animals.
When NJAFA found out that some people were trying to lay claim to
Bart's house saying it was theirs and thus telling Bart he had to get
rid of his cats, we had our lawyer contact Bart and get the wheels in
motion to go to court so Bart could keep his house AND ALL HIS CATS!!!
Two weeks ago, NJAFA received good news that the judge has ruled in
Bart's favor and that the people trying to "steal" his house no longer
have claim to it and Bart can keep his cats.
NJAFA helps people in Camden and the animals. We have made many
contacts there and met very nice people who really care about their
animals. They just need some help now and then like we all do.
CRUELTY CLASS (May
2008)
Many thanks to Stu
Goldman, a NJSPCA officer and special officer for Monmouth County
SPCA for taking the time to come to South Jersey and share his years
of valuable experience on "how the private citizen can put together
an animal cruelty case for law enforcement".
Fifteen private
citizens learned valuable tips and information on how to recognize
and report cruelty. Some of the material included: how to work
with prosecutors, what constitutes cruelty, how to gather evidence
and we were provided with reference tools that are readily available
on the internet.
Also, we were
thrilled that the State NJSPCA paid for one of their rookie agents
to attend our lecture and drive 3 hours roundtrip to attend NJAFA's
"first of a series of workshops and lectures". Inasmuch as the
State NJSPCA does not have the privilege of having Officer Goldman
train their agents as he used to at headquarters, it is an
opportunity not to be missed when he agrees to a lecture for the
private citizen and NJSPCA employees alike.
It is gratifying to
see the very humane law enforcement entities for whom we are
learning to build cases (NJSPCA and animal control officers in
attendance) support the efforts of the private citizens and rescue
groups who may all be potential donors to NJSPCA and whose joint
mission it is to "help animals in need".
Response to
this lecture was so positive that Officer Goldman and NJAFA will be
hosting another seminar next month with some exciting guests. Watch
this website for details. If you are interested in attending,
please contact
info@njafa.org
with specific details and/or subject matter YOU would like to hear
in a lecture regarding animal cruelty.
Thanks to Bob Van
Skiver and Howard at Fairchild's Restaurant in Waterford for hosting
us. The buffet was great!
ONE
YEAR TODAY SINCE COCO WAS DIAGNOSED SUFFERING WITH LYME DISEASE AND
HEARTWORM.
Now that the trial is over and Robert McCann is trying to appeal his
case (he never showed up for his indigent trial yesterday in Camden
Superior Court and has until April 30 to pay his court fees of $l75
or there will be no appeal at all) this still leaves some questions
and concerns we should be holding the feet to the fire of people
involved.
#ONE - THE NJ STATE SPCA
Are we going to let Coco die at the end of her chain at Mr. Jerry
Brown's home in Sicklerville, NJ? Just like all the other thousands
of dogs at the end of a chain that are never helped? (Look at this
dog that had a wire tie around its mouth yesterday April 10..see
details below).
Now that the NJSPCA says they have checked out Coco and have given a
"slap on the hand" to the owner, Jerry Brown, to have her assessed
and checked out, how LONG must Coco wait til the NJSPCA follows up
on Coco's treatment?
Please call the NJSPCA and demand to know when Coco is going to be
treated and if she has been assessed or seen by a vet by her new
owner, Jerry Brown of Sicklerville, NJ.
The NJSPCA is 800 582 5979 you will get an operator but just say you
are calling about "Coco" in Sicklerville, NJ and the follow up by
NJSPCA.
You can also email Captain Sy Goldberg who originally told me over a
year ago that there was nothing the NJSPCA could do about Coco being
outside. When NJ Aid for Animals Kathy McGuire President pressed him
more and said we would be filing our own charges as any private
citizen can do after an officer of the community writes the summons,
then and only then did Captain Goldberg at the NJSPCA decide to take
action with getting involved
Syjgoldberg@aol.com
#TWO - Judge McNeill at Camden Superior Court
If anyone has knowledge of money or salary that Robert McCann is
receiving to demonstrate to the court why Mr. McCann should NOT
receive indigent help to obtain transcripts for his appeal, please
advise or show up at the next hearing in Judge McNeill's chambers
Why is Robert McCann allowed to plead that he is indigent, when he
testified that he held two paralegal jobs and a junk business?
Robert McCann says he "has no money or income" yet he received over
$350.00 for selling his day old puppies to us in 2007. Wonder if he
ever reported that as income on his tax return?
NJAFA will NOT give up on Coco and give up on the CONVICTION of
Robert McCann and will see this appeal through to the end.
Mr. McCann is finding every way possible to "slither" out of his
hearings, appeal process, etc. so he doesn't have to start paying
back the money he owes AND TO perform his l00 hours of community
service.
The Camden County Probation Department will be assigning his
community service
Perhaps the CCPD could assign Mr. McCann to pick up "trash" on our
city streets with the words "puppy killer" on his back.

ANOTHER GREAT
SPAY DAY - THANKS TO OUR SPONSOR AND VOLUNTEERS!!!
Saturday, May 3,
NJAFA's official vets, Drs. Honey Rothberg and Helen Cammbell,
together donated together over TWENTY HOURS of their time to
spay and neuter cats that came from NJAFA's colonies and cats
from Camden to celebrate a special friend and fellow animal
lover, Sandy Beach, who has passed away.
Hearts and Paws
owner, Toni Black, was on hand to give moral support and to
donate $l,000 to make this day happen to pay for the site and
materials and staff.
51 cats were
spayed/neutered and given all their shots. NJAFA's team of
volunteers did what ONLY our group does; we go the extra mile
and through PEP (Pet Enrichment Program); we treat each cat with
a flea preventative, comb and brush out their hair for fleas or
mites, clean their ears and treat if necessary. We know we will
never see these cats that are from outside colonies or going
back to homes in Camden and want them to be returned "enriched".
Our volunteers
worked all day helping in surgery, scrubbing instruments,
sweeping, checking in, paperwork, returning cats back to owners
in Camden,
As a partner in
the AWA l0,000 Paws Program, NJAFA volunteers and AWA staff
brought in a total of 39 cats from Camden City.
Sadly, we had to
make a decision to put to sleep a little black cat that we named
"Hope". Kathy McGuire, President of NJAFA, trapped her outside
of an individual's home in Camden who has been feeding her but
who was looking sickly Poor little girl had a very large
mammary tumor which was spreading as far up as her neck. 95% of
the breast tumors are malignant and she was very weak. We
said a prayer and held her close while she went over the Rainbow
Bridge and we buried her in a private cemetary.
Also, we
discovered one of the cats McGuire picked up from a crack house
in Camden was drooling excessively because of a gash on its
tongue AND a very large abscess on floor of his mouth. He was
filthy dirty and covered in scabs. He was so filthy our
volunteers had to BATH HIM once he was knocked out before he was
neutered. Filthy dirty water poured off of him as they bathed
his thin scabby body. With his mouth so sore, this little guy
could not groom himself.
Poor little
"Crackers" is now home recovering with McGuire and on heavy meds
for his mouth. Hopefully the abscess will be healed and it is
not mouth cancer. Thanks to the loving care from our
volunteers, he looks so much better and he ATE FOUR CANS of soft
food the day after he came home!!!!
Thanks to all the
people who VOLUNTEERED their Saturday to help these animals:
Toni Black, Drs. Honey and Helen and our volunteers, Lisa,
Millie, Jen, Nicole, Jean and Carol. What a great day!!!!
Everyone was very very tired....Kathy McGuire ended up in the
hospital with an antibiotic IV drip from getting bitten by what
she thought was just a sweet little cat from Camden!!! She was
bitten at about 7:00 am and by 7:00 pm, a red streak was working
its way up to her armpit!!!! Thank goodness McGuire has her
rabies shots and tetanus!!!
Look for a video
of that day coming soon! This is a little "note" from our great
vets!
Just wanted to
thank you for the opportunity to help so many cats yesterday.
It was a long day and Helen and I were tired but that was
totally offset by the special feelings we had in knowing how
many cats were helped and that we put a small dent in the
population of more unwanted animals to come. As we rode home
we both acknowledged how full our hearts were and what a
worthwhile cause we had the privilege to be part of.

APRIL 29th - SHOPPING AND SIPPING WINE. .. WHAT COULD BE
BETTER!!!!
Update on Event at Wine Room,
Normally after our events or individuals
hosting them for us, we have nothing but wonderful things to say.
Sadly at this time, we do not. The Wine Room in Cherry Hill could be
a wonderful venue to bring a group or to do something different.
As a professional event planner with a
degree in Marketing and having been an event specialist for a very
large national non profit, I would say run don't walk from The Wine
Room for any event.
The trunk show was fabulous and the
vendors were great. But our "hosts" were not.
Although this was not an official
fundraising event for NJAFA, one of the vendors does donate a portion
of her proceeds to NJAFA, thus we were encouraged to bring our donors
and friends for an evening of wine tasting. The owners of the Wine
Room were rude and uninformative. One of our major donors asked for a
brochure to bring a large group of her friends there for an event and
was told "look it up on internet". This woman has no computer and was
told "too bad we have no information to give you".No brochures or
marketing material was available to the people in attendance as to
what exactly they do at the Wine Room.
When we asked if a bottle of the
Chilean Chardonnay could be purchased, we were looked at like we had
two heads. Having lived in California myself for almost twenty years,
I am very very familiar with the protocol of wine tastings.
Apparently the people who own the Wine Room are not.
They were rude and
ungracious. Everyone who attended commented on the rude behaviour of
the owner Kevin Nice (should be Kevin Nasty) and his mother who ran
the event.
NJAFA would not endorse or support The
Wine Room in Cherry Hill for any function or event in the future and
encourage those within our sphere of influence to do the same.
Funky and fabulous....that's what it will be when you join us
for an array of beautiful handmade designer pieces from Lisa
Drinkwater, our "official" artist as we sip wine and stroll the
beautiful terrace at The Wine Room while visiting other "one of
a kind" designer vendors.
Lisa will be showing for sale her goddess jackets, custom bags,
designer hand sculpted jewelery and hand sculpted mermaids, cat
wands and an array of gorgeous items. See her website at http://www.faerierealm.com/
to see some of her gorgeous hand done items.

Fill the Pit in Your Heart Event a Success -
What an awesome event. Everyone said the chocolate was fabulous and they
ate too much!!! NJAFA raised tons of money.. more pictures coming.

Dempsey's
portrait has found a home with one of NJAFA's supporters. Our friend
"Maria" first saw Dempsey's picture on the T shirts during the Michael
Vick abuse case. When we did the fundraiser at "Convict Vick at the Pic",
Dempsey's face was on the tickets. Maria saved her ticket stub!!! since
December 10 because she just loves Dempsey's face.
When she arrived at our Sazon
event and saw the beautiful portrait by Brendon Connor, she "had to have
it"....Maria finally got a real picture to put in her house and can
finally take down the ticket stub from her refrigerator!!!
Thanks Maria! We will miss having
it above our fireplace!
Baltimore Chosen for Pit Bull Fundraiser due to Pending
Breed Specific Legislation
January 31, 2008 — Pinups for Pitbulls, the nonprofit
organization founded by pinup model Deirdre 'Little Darling'
Geurin dedicated to saving the lives of abused and abandoned
pit bulls, will be holding a silent art auction and raffle
on Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Sidebar in Baltimore.
The event will promote the sale of the 2008 'Pinups for
Pitbulls Calendar' featuring models and their pit bulls, as
well as featuring Baltimore bands The Dead End Boys, Empire
by Design, The Side Affects and Pessimist Parade. Wilmington
artist Ric Frane has also donated prints of his artwork for
auction. Pinups for Pitbulls has raised nearly $10,000 from
2008 calendar sales and fundraisers to assist bully-friendly
rescues with funding for dog crates, food, blankets, foster
care and transportation.
The city of Baltimore has been chosen as the final
fundraising location for the 2008 Pinups for Pitbulls
calendar to raise awareness about pending breed-specific
legislation. If passed, this would declare all pit bulls as
"dangerous" solely because of their breed. The bill would
require owners to keep the dogs caged, muzzle them outside
cages and post property signs that read "Pit Bull Dog" or
"Beware of Dog." Violators would face up to $1,000 in fines.
The undue stress and heartache families of these dogs face,
due to exorbitant licensing and extreme care requirements,
is cause for some to say the legislation is
unconstitutional.
Pinups for Pitbulls is dedicated to helping homeless pit
bulls and removing the stigma from the breed because of
irresponsible and abusive pet owners. Pit bulls are loyal
family members, have been war heroes and American icons such
as Petey from the Litte Rascals, The RCA dog Nippy as well
as Helen Keller's service dog.
Little Darling has been featured in broadcast interviews
about her organization and its mission on CBS-3/KYW TV and
the Philadelphia morning show Cn8 as well as print
interviews in the Philly Daily News, The Trentonian and
more. For more information and to see a list of rescues that
have benefited from the organization's efforts, please visit
www.pinupsforpitbulls.com or email Little Darling at
pinupsforpitbulls@gmail.com. A complete press kit will be
available soon.
Pinups for Pitbulls is not an actual shelter or rescue so
donations are not tax deductible.
Animals to "Safety"
One of NJ Aid for Animals' missions is
to transport animals to other sanctuaries and rescues that are no
kill when we are full. Since we are not a shelter but rather use
foster homes and have limited space, we endeavor to network with
our other "partners" to find safety for the dogs and cats we
rescue.
Since January 1, NJAFA has transported
or networked to save over l5 dogs and 4 cats that were facing
being place in kill shelters. Just a few of the dogs include:
Coco, the pit in Ohio went to a sanctuary in Ohio, four dogs
surrendered from Camden we took to a no kill rescue in S. Jersey,
Oscar went to a dachsund rescue, our trainer took a little guy
that was a biter and could not be placed and euthanizing was NOT
an option, Scrappy who was found wandering Trenton streets went to
our friends in North Jersey and two pit pull pups (Sebastian and
Apollo) and Foxy the beautiful Collie Mix went to our great
partners near New York. Little Fritz is still with us working on
some esteem issues and of course everyone wants Lulu the new
beagle puppy found "wandering the streets of Trenton", Gizmo an
owner surrender peke mix who had been burned was also taken to a
no kill rescue.

One Lucky Girl
By
Mike Kellerman
In our current cynical
age, very few news stories are able to serve as a source of
inspiration or hope. The rescue of Cha Cha the pit bull just happens
to fall into that category. To put it quite simply, Cha Cha is one
lucky pit bull. Originally, she was being used for dog fighting,
until Kevin Charles of Camden City rescued her from that life,
tended her wounds, and gave her a loving home for the next ten
years.
Sadly, in December
2006, Kevin was rushed to a hospital up north due to complications
from AIDS, and Cha Cha was left on her own. Kevin’s aunt called
Kitty Bodeep of Audobon, NJ, a longtime rescuer of animals. She, in
turn, notified Kathy McGuire, President and Founder of NJ Aid for
Animals (NJAFA), who placed Cha Cha at Halo House Boarding Kennels
in Franklinville since the NJAFA foster program was full at the
time.
Cha Cha had several
medical issues to contend with, including an infected paw and
mammary tumors. However, Kitty Bodeep paid to have her spayed and
her tumors removed. During this time, Kathy McGuire visited Cha Cha
fairly regularly, and the search for a new home for Cha Cha
continued.
Finally, via McGuire’s
connections, Cha Cha was accepted into Out of the Pits, a non-profit
that rescues abandoned pit bulls. Cha Cha has since been adopted by
the Mansfields of Vermont and enjoys life on a 33 acre farm. She has
certainly been to hell and back.

Calendar Kickoff Philly
AWESOME is the word
for this great event last night in Philly. We had a fabulous
turnout and of course, all the beautiful models from the calendar
were there. Dierdre and her great gang of gals and volunteers
raised mucho bucks for the charities that will benefit. NJAFA
donated a beautifully framed portrait of the famous Dempsey, some
Throw Vick to the Dogs tees and one of our hot off the presses angel
wing necklaces that you can see under our "store" link.
Some of the great art
that was donated and auctioned last night!

The
DC fundraiser will be incredible because the venue is the NUMBER ONE
VENUE for parties and fundraisers in the Washington area.
Thanks to everyone
who came and supported the wonderful groups and of course my "gang"
for helping out, bringing grub and grog and stuff.
All the pitties and
pups there had a great time too!

Almost like a
farmers’ market/craft fair for dogs and cats without the produce!
Treat the one who loves you best to something delicious or
glamorous from one of the BB vendors…meet with an upright care
provider for those on all fours…or cuddle with someone really cute
who’s looking for a new home. This will be just too adorable to
miss so mark your calendar. And, of course, this is an outside
event that can only be held if it’s not pouring cats and dogs so
keep your paws crossed!

was a HUGE SUCCESS on
Saturday, August 18, 2007
at the SWEETWATER CASINO.
We had an
OPEN BAR, SUNSET DINNER & LIVE MUSIC
by Pat Karwan,
DR. Elizabeth Severino - ANIMAL
Communicator and the
CEDAR RUN WILDLIFE REFUGE performed their
RAPTOR SHOW.
Thank you all for making this the most successful event we have ever
had.
What a fabulous show Cedar Run Wildlife put on for our event.
Everyone learned alot about raptors and barred owls. As dusk
approached, a barred owl was released and flew straight up into the
pine trees high above us. Dr. Liz Severino
said a prayer for the
birds safe flight and the second owl was then set for release.
Kathy McGuire, President of NJAFA, was awarded the privilege of
setting free this beautiful creature. As he was released into the
air, he took a turn toward the water and dove right into the Mullica
River!!!!
Everyone ran to the end of the dock. Several of our GUESTS WERE
READY to jump in after him. Owls DO NOT go into the water normally
and he had to be rescued immediately!!! Michael from Cedar Run
jumped in clothes and all and rescued the little owl. The owl was
apparently not yet strong enough to go on his own.
But all turned out well. The little owl is back at Cedar Run and
will be released when he is strong enough. One of our guests bought
Michael a new T-shirt to drive home in and another one even brought
a blanket from his car.
The mermaid theme was everywhere from the napkin rings to the drink
charms to the mermaid martini and the fabulous hand sculpted
mermaids by artist Lisa Drinkwater.
All in all it was a great event...the weather was PERFECT, fun was
had by all, great music, great company, great cigars, chair massage
and angel/tarot card reader. A veteran animal rescuer who has
attended dozens of fundraising events said "this was by far the
nicest event she had ever attended".
Enjoy these pictures and keep watching this site for more pictures
as they come in.
Look for details for next year's event ...we will be looking forward
to seeing you all again.
